Trauma is your emotional response to a distressing experience. Traumatic events tend to be sudden and unpredictable involve a services threat to life--like bodily injury/death--and feel beyond your control.
Types of Trauma
Acute trauma (intense distress in the immediate aftermath of a one-time event and the reaction is of short durations). Ex: car crash, physical/sexual assault
Chronic trauma (arise from harmful events that are repeated or prolonged). Ex: bullying, neglect, emotional, physical, or sexual abuse, domestic violence
Complex trauma (arise from experiencing repeated/multiple traumatic events from which there is no possibility of escape).
Secondary/vicarious trauma (arise from expose to other people's suffering).
Adverse Childhood Experience (ACE) (different situations that children either directly face/witness while growing up, before they have develop affective coping skills). Ex: loss of parent, neglect, emotional, sexual or physical abuse, and divorce
